Entering Team Schedules

High schools across the state are starting to release their fall schedules. We have been entering football, girls soccer, and volleyball schedules as they become available to us. We'll start on boys soccer this week as well. Los Alamos football article is going to live tonight, and I have pushed both girls soccer articles back to a later undetermined date. We had some unexpect technical issues which have put me behind, but hope to have those ironed out as we continue to expand the site. We have a few request for more interviews in football and volleyball, so we'll post those as we finish the interviews.

This whole summer has been a learning experience for me and starting New Mexico High School Sports News. One thing I have I have learned is how open all coaches have been to being interviewed and eager to help us give their teams more exposure in the internet. When we started contacting coaches, I just didn't know what to expect their reaction to be to a new website with little or no information on it. I am deeply grateful to those coaches who have taken time out of their busy schedule to visit with us. It has been very rewarding to me to meet these coaches whether it is in person or on the phone.

As the school year approaches and the fall sports seasons draws closer, we'll start interviewing kids. Our goal is to not only provide scores and game stories, but stories about the players themselves. We want to be a story driven website first and foremost.
I have enjoyed using this blog to talk about the challenges of starting a website that covers New Mexico high school sports. We appreciate those who have visited New Mexico High School Sports News over the past couple of months and look forward to expand as the sports season approaches.

A few other notes:

I did not make it to UNM yesterday for the 7 on 7 tournament, but I read on NMpreps.com that Rio Rancho was the tournament winner. We look foward to covering the NM High School Coaches Association 7 on 7 tournament in Rio Rancho on July 10th and 11th.

There are a quite a few All Star Games being held next month for both girls and boys sports. Check our website for more information and rosters.

More upcoming stories

Our week has been a busy one and we're a little behind. We hope to have our story on Rio Rancho girls basketball coach Pat Puentes up on Friday evening and pushing back Carlsbad Cavemen girls soccer back to Sunday.

Monday we'll have the third installment for our "Schools out for Summer" series on high school football with an article about Coach Bob Scott and the Los Alamos Hilltoppers. After 20 years of coaching, Coach Scott is enjoying himself and is optimistic about next season.

Yesterday, we visited Volcano Vista head football Coach Chad Wallin at his office. Our story on Coach's Wallin's Hawks will be live on Monday June 22nd. We posted on our site information on Coach Wallin's "Hawk Football Clinic" being held July 17-18th.

We also talked to La Cueva head girls soccer Coach Amber Ashcraft. After a disappointing early exit from last years playoffs, Coach Ashcroft has high expectations which La Cueva girls soccer typically achieves.

On Wednesday June 3rd, the New Mexico Activities Association released the board approved realignment beginning 2010-2011 season through 2012-2013. Click HERE to view the new classifications.
